About us

What we do

Through the process of dramatic play we learn our students strengths and interests, we build on this, laying the foundation for each individual students creative journey. We create the space so that our students can discover their full personalities.

At PlayAct drama school the students lead the way in our drama workshops by mixing improvisational play with structured classes, acting, speech, and communication exams, feis, in-house performances, and every element that makes up theatre. Our weekly workshops are designed in close consideration with Aistear and our National  primary school curriculum

PlayAct drama school is an inclusive, non competitive, supportive drama in education experience.

Benefits for Students

Self-Confidence

Encouraging students to take risks in drama class and performing for one another teaches students to trust their ideas and abilities. The confidence gained in drama class applies to school, career and developing life skills.

Empathy

Students get to pretend and play different characters through vocal expression and through their body language. They get the opportunity to role-play different situations, time periods and cultures. This promotes compassion, tolerance and understanding for other people’s feelings and points

Communication Skills

Drama enhances verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas. This improves voice projection, articulation of words, fluency with language, and persuasive speech. Listening and observation skills develop by playing and participating in drama and theatre exercises, being an audience, rehearsing, and performing.

Physical Fitness

The physical movement in drama improves control and balance, coordination and flexibility.

Memory

Through creative play, repetition, rehearsing, performing words, movement, and cues strengthen the memory muscle.

Our Philosophy:

PlayAct is the brainchild of Adrienne Lee, a specialist educator in drama, theatre, and performance with over 20 years of experience in the sector. She and her team are fully qualified drama facilitators.

“Drama has had a huge impact on my life since Early childhood. As a child I was shy and under confident. This made it difficult for me to express myself. My mother took the lead and enrolled me in Therese O’Donovan’s Speech & Drama classes. I quickly found a life long love for Speech & Drama. I would be the first person to class each week. Through my weekly classes I became more confident amongst my peers, more comfortable in the classroom and quickly blossomed into a happier, well rounded individual. This affected my whole school experience and my ability to be happy and enjoy learning. It is because of my own experience as a child that PlayAct Drama School is here. I wanted to set up a drama school that focuses on a positive learning experience for every child.”
